Wednesday 7th April

Pretty much as the day before except we were treated to a tour of village life on Munroe Island via a canoe steered by our guide named Viteesh.

Viteesh was very well spoken in the English language, which he had acquired predominantly by talking with other tourists, and he had a huge willingness to learn more. His ambition was to travel outside of India and Asia, but at 27 I'm not sure if he'd even set foot off of Munroe Island.

Despite of this he was able to communicate at a very high standard, and showed us around the Island taking in everyday activities. He was also kind enough to invite us back to his home and to meet his lovely family. A most enjoyable way to start the day.

As I had done on the Tundabhadra earlier in our trip I couldn't help but have a crack at paddling or steering, using a paddle and also a 5 metre bamboo pole - where balance was paramount; not my strong point and a dip in the water was certainly a possibility. Luckily though, I managed to survive.

Returning to the houseboat for lunch after which it was time to relax again and enjoy the sunset over the coconut palms. The heat and humidity of Kerala had taken its toll and I at least was ready to turn in by 9 o'clock.
